Position Overview

UES is one of the fastest-growing AEC firms in the United States, specializing in Construction Materials Testing, Geotechnical Engineering, and Environmental Testing. We're looking for an experienced Lead Estimator to help launch our centralized estimating function dedicated to national account support.

 

As the Lead Estimator, you will play a pivotal part in driving our strategic growth with a primary focus on maximizing the win rate for high-value National Clients. You will be directly responsible for defining and executing our competitive pricing strategy across all major service lines. The ultimate goal of this role is to establish professional relationships and grow the business with existing and prospective customers, ensuring the company becomes their primary service provider by consistently supplying accurate, standardized, and competitive estimates

Responsibilities

  • Proposal Ownership: Taking ownership of full-cycle Proposal Management—including the development, senior-level review, and final submission of all bids for National Accounts.
  • Strategic Pricing: Implementing and refining the Competitive Pricing Strategy across all projects (Geotechnical, CMT, and Environmental Testing).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Managing extensive collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the business, including Branch leadership, production, and operations teams, to ensure estimates are accurate and feasible.
  • Business Growth: Establishing professional relationships, growing the business with existing and prospective customers, and ensuring UES becomes their primary service provider by supplying accurate, standardized, and competitive estimates.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management is Required. 
  • Experience: Minimium of 7 years of estimating experience in Construction Materials Testing or Geotechnical Engineering is Preferred 
  • Technical Skills: Proven ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, technical documents, and operational specifications. Professional Engineering (PE) License is preferred but not required
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of how contractors operate, including field implementation and project scheduling
  • Competitive Drive: Must demonstrate confidence, a strong desire to succeed, and a commitment to competitive analysis (understanding why bids are won/lost)
  • Communication: Strong communication and presentation skills. Comfortable in client interactions, capable of promoting bids, and effectively communicating complex information
  • Core Skills: Strong time management, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail

Travel Requirements

  • This position requires approximately 10% travel to support business objectives and client engagements. Travel may include scheduled and short-notice trips to client sites, field locations, or regional offices. Work in these locations may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments, and adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • This position primarily operates in a professional office environment, requiring the ability to work at a
    desk for extended periods while using a computer, phone, and standard office equipment.
  • The position involves sitting for extended periods, performing data entry, and engaging in frequent
    communication via email, phone, and in-person interactions.
  • The role involves regular communication with team members, clients, and stakeholders, both in person
    and through virtual platforms.
  • The physical demands of the job may include occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting of office
    materials up to 15 pounds
