Position Overview

UES is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented interns to join our Texas team for a hands-on summer experience. This internship provides an opportunity to develop technical expertise through practical exposure to field and laboratory testing of construction materials, including soil, concrete, and asphalt. Interns will work alongside experienced engineers and technicians to conduct tests, collect and analyze data, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

This structured 10-week program offers meaningful engagement in geotechnical investigations, laboratory testing, and field operations. Interns will gain hands-on experience in one or more of the following focus areas, depending on their interests and organizational needs:

Responsibilities

Internship Focus Areas:

  • Geotechnical Investigations: Assist with underground utility coordination, mark boring locations, verify site access, and support geotechnical drilling operations.
  • Soils Laboratory Testing: Conduct Atterberg limits tests, sieve analyses, proctor compaction tests, and one-dimensional swell tests to evaluate soil properties.
  • Concrete Laboratory Testing: Prepare and test concrete specimens, assess cylinder dimensions, and determine material strength.
  • Field Testing – Soils: Perform field density tests, collect samples, observe proof rolling, and monitor lime treatment applications to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Field Testing – Concrete: Conduct plastic concrete testing, cast specimens for strength evaluation, and assess rebar placement for structural integrity.
  • Comply with all UES safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide general support to project teams as needed

Professional Development & Additional Opportunities:
Interns will have the opportunity to engage with company executives, participate in structured professional development activities, and gain insight into industry best practices. At the conclusion of the program, each intern will deliver a presentation to department leadership summarizing their key learnings and experiences.
