The Environmental Permitting Specialist is responsible for securing and managing environmental permits to ensure project compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. This role involves coordinating with regulatory agencies, preparing permit applications and technical documents, and supporting environmental planning for development and operational projects.

Responsibilities

• Research and interpret applicable environmental laws and regulations.
• Prepare and submit permit applications for various environmental approvals (e.g., wetlands, air quality, water resources, endangered species, stormwater, waste management).
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies to track permit status and ensure timely approvals.
• Conduct environmental impact assessments or contribute to the preparation of NEPA/CEQA documentation, as required.
• Collaborate with project teams (engineering, legal, construction, planning) to ensure environmental compliance is integrated into project design and schedules.
• Monitor permit conditions and compliance during project execution and operations.
• Maintain records of environmental documentation, approvals, and communications.
• Support due diligence efforts and feasibility studies by identifying permitting risks and timelines.
• Represent the company at public hearings, stakeholder meetings, or agency consultations, if needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Planning, Natural Resources, or related field.
• Master’s degree is a plus.
• 2–5 years of experience in environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, or environmental consulting.
• Experience with federal (e.g., USACE, EPA, FWS), state, and local permitting processes (e.g., Clean Water Act Section 404/401, Endangered Species Act, NEPA/CEQA).
• Strong understanding of environmental laws and permitting processes.
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; GIS or environmental modeling tools is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple permit applications and deadlines efficiently
• Ability to read and write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as writing routine reports and
correspondence, and speaking effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• This position primarily operates in a professional office environment, requiring the ability to work at a desk for
extended periods while using a computer, phone, and standard office equipment.
• The position involves sitting for extended periods, performing data entry, and engaging in frequent
communication via email, phone, and in-person interactions.
• The role involves regular communication with team members, clients, and stakeholders, both in person and
through virtual platforms.
• The physical demands of the job may include occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting of office
materials up to 15 pounds
