In this role, you’ll play a crucial part in supporting geotechnical, construction materials testing, and environmental projects that help shape our communities. From testing soil and concrete to analyzing asphalt and aggregates, your work ensures the strength, safety, and reliability of roads, bridges, buildings, and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory testing on construction materials—including soil, concrete, and aggregates—in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and other applicable industry standards.
• Ensure all project testing requirements meet project specifications, regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
• Accurately record and report test results while maintaining organized, detailed, and error-free documentation.
• Assist in the preparation, handling, labeling, and proper storage of samples to maintain integrity and traceability per lab protocols.
• Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment according to manufacturer and safety guidelines.
• Follow all safety procedures, including correct handling of materials and consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Communicate effectively with lab supervisors, engineers, and field personnel, providing updates on testing progress, sample status, and technical issues.
• Support the lab team by performing additional tasks as needed, including collaboration with field technicians and project managers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical coursework in engineering, geology, construction science, or a related field preferred.
• 0–3 years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical lab work, or a related field (prior lab experience preferred but not required).
• Commitment to safety in accordance with OSHA, company, and lab safety guidelines, including correct use of PPE.
• Basic computer proficiency; experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Field Data Collection (FDC) software preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret technical procedures, manuals, and reports relevant to lab protocols and materials testing.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients to complete tasks and relay findings.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities to handle multiple priorities efficiently.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently within the scope of experience, using sound judgment to resolve routine issues.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Ability to lift and carry 35–75 lbs. over distances up to 75 feet, involving consistent, repetitive movements.
• Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate laboratory and field equipment for prolonged periods.
• Frequent use of hands and arms for sample handling, equipment operation, and data entry.
• Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, climb, pull, push, balance, and lift as required for lab and field activities.
• Ability to communicate clearly in both lab and field settings, including while using PPE.
• Ability to effectively use senses such as vision (close, distance, peripheral, and depth), smell, and focus for lab and safety awareness.
