We are seeking a dependable, physically capable, and detail-oriented Concrete Lab Technician to join our team in our Construction Materials Testing Lab. This role is labor-intensive and ideal for someone with a skilled labor background who enjoys hands-on work, staying organized, and working both independently and as part of a team.

 

While not a traditional laboratory role, this position can be a stepping stone to more advanced testing and technical work in the future.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of construction materials testing, project-specific observations, and site assessment duties under general supervision and/or detailed procedures
  • Operate testing equipment and conduct lab tests on concrete
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of test results
  • Use basic math and calculators to compute results
  • Prepare and organize testing materials and samples
  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal project teams
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Adhere to all safety policies and protocols

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in skilled labor or construction preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills – written, verbal, and listening
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
  • Firm grasp of basic math and proficiency using a calculator and computer
  • Ability to read and understand work plans
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record required
  • Must be able to work off-shift and overtime as needed
  • Must be able to lift, move, push, and pull 30–50 lbs frequently, and over 50 lbs occasionally with assistance
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time; kneel, squat, climb occasionally
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (hot and cold)
  • Ability to receive and process oral instructions and communicate clearly
  • External/task-related certifications may be required depending on region or state
  • Pre-employment drug testing may be required based on position type

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Work is sometimes conducted in a laboratory setting, but may also involve fieldwork and exposure to outdoor conditions, including:

• Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, construction zones, and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris.
• Moderate to loud noise levels due to lab equipment, field operations, and construction environments.
• Exposure to dirt, dust, chemicals, sun, heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions as part of field sample collection and testing.

 

Physical requirements include:

• Ability to lift and carry between 35 and 75 lbs. over distances up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion.
• Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate laboratory and field equipment for extended periods.
• Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling samples, operating lab instruments, and performing testing procedures.
• Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for laboratory and fieldwork.
• Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means in a lab and field environment, often requiring the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
• Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant, and peripheral vison, depth vision, and ability to focus) and smell.
