Summary

We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join our growing team.  The Staff Engineer will support construction materials testing (CMT) projects through engineering analysis, report preparation, field observations, and coordination with field and lab technicians. This role is essential in ensuring the integrity, safety, and compliance of materials used in construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and execution of CMT projects involving soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
  • Perform engineering analysis and interpret lab/field test results to determine compliance with applicable codes, standards (ASTM, AASHTO, FDOT), and specifications.
  • Prepare and review daily field and laboratory reports and draft final engineering reports.
  • Support senior engineers and project managers with technical documentation, field investigations, and client communication.
  • Conduct occasional field visits to observe construction practices, collect samples, and ensure testing is performed per procedures.
  • Coordinate with field technicians to ensure timely and accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation for all assigned projects.
  • Participate in internal training and obtain relevant certifications to advance technical capabilities.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and promote a culture of safety in all work activities.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in civil or related field.
  • 0-3 years of related experience in construction, geotechnical, or materials testing. Internships or co-ops in related fields are a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and reporting software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification or in progress.
  • ACI, NICET, or other relevant CMT certifications a plus (or willingness to obtain).
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification or in progress.
  • Master’s degree in civil or geotechnical engineering

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle, including wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles
  • This job is primarily performed in an office setting, but field visits may be required where regular exposure to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud
