Overview

The Staff Scientist II is a key role, supporting engineering projects, by conducting field investigations, analyzing data, and contributing to the development of engineering solutions. The primary responsibilities will include performing geotechnical investigations, preparing technical reports, air monitoring, and collaborating with project teams to deliver high-quality engineering services.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations, including site assessment, soil and water sampling, environmental monitoring, and geotechnical testing.
  • Perform surveys and air monitoring on asbestos, lead-based paint and indoor air quality (IAQ)
  • Assist in the design and implementation of engineering solutions and environmental remediation plans.
  • Conduct phase I & phase II’s
  • Analyze scientific data and prepare detailed technical reports and documentation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers and other team members to develop and execute project scopes, schedules and budgets.
  • Provide technical support during construction phase of projects, including site visits and inspections.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of investigations, tests, and project progress.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to clients, stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria), may or may not be required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software
  • Ability to read and write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as writing routine reports and correspondence, and speaking effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field
  • Experience conducting Phase I’s & II’s
  • 3+ years of experience in asbestos, lead-based paint, and IAQs (Indoor air quality)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in geotechnical engineering or a related field.
  • Previous experience in an A/E/C firm.
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical principles, practices and testing methods.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software and tools (e.g. AutoCAD, GIS).
  • Ability to solve problems, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Accredited Asbestos Inspector
  • Florida Licensed Asbestos Consultant (LAC)

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear. Body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Lifting and/or occasionally moving up to 10 lbs. can be expected, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
  • Occasional driving may be required
  • This is not a remote position. This role will be based on the selected job posting location
