Summary
The Project Engineer is a key role, with a strong background in geotechnical engineering to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting site investigations, analyzing soil and rock properties, preparing geotechnical reports, and providing engineering recommendations for various infrastructure and construction projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients, contractors, and internal teams.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct geotechnical site investigations, including soil and rock sampling, borehole logging, and field testing, and present findings to interdisciplinary teams
  • Design foundations, retaining walls, slope stabilization systems, and ground improvement solutions
  • Assess geological and geotechnical conditions to evaluate risks and opportunities for construction projects
  • Manage project execution, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and milestone tracking
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure project objectives are met
  • Communicate project status, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and quality assurance to identify challenges, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure deliverables meet client expectations
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, and design recommendations
  • Provide technical support during construction, including reviewing submittals and conducting field inspections
  • Review and interpret geotechnical laboratory and field test results
  • Develop proposals, budgets, and schedules for geotechnical projects
  • Foster client relationships to enhance satisfaction and future collaborations
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and innovations to enhance project efficiency
  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including project management and field experience
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, ground improvement techniques, and applicable codes and standards
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other design software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical report writing and client interactions
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, propose innovative solutions, and make informed decisions under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with project managers, engineers, and field technicians
  • Team-oriented with leadership potential
  • Ability to conduct site inspections, including walking on uneven terrain and occasionally lifting field equipment
  • Occasional travel to project sites may be required

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe
  • Advanced knowledge of regional geology and soil types

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear. Body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing.
  • Lifting and/or moving up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds.
  • This job is in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions.
  • Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles.
  • This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud.
  • This role involves a mix of office-based engineering analysis and on-site investigations
  • Some travel may be required for site visits and project meetings
