We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to conduct on-site inspections, verify quality control, and ensure compliance with engineering specifications, regulatory standards, and project requirements. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring construction activities, performing field tests, and documenting observations to ensure that materials and workmanship meet project plans and industry standards.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction inspection, with working knowledge of construction field layout, plan interpretation, quantity verification, material testing, and engineering computations. You will work closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to help identify and resolve construction issues, promote safety compliance, and support successful project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed on-site inspections to ensure compliance with approved engineering plans, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Responsible for the inspection and documentation of welding inspections in the areas of building code compliance.
  • Familiarity with Construction Materials Standards, Specifications, and Codes (AISC, ASTM, AWS)
  • Provide daily reports of observation and test results
  • Interact with client representatives (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at a project sites
  • Ability to attend client meetings related to pre-construction, pre-fabrication, and other construction meetings to provide information about quality requirements
  • Ability to work with other fabrication, construction, and quality personnel as part of the verification process to ensure quality standards are being met at the project site or in a fabrication facility
  • Familiarity with sampling and testing of construction materials (structural steel, other steel products, bridge components) in accordance with project standards and specifications
  • Assist in preparing final project closeout documentation, ensuring all required inspections and quality checks are completed.
  • Ensure strict adherence to company safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements, promoting a culture of workplace safety and compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Must be a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) by the American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • ICC Structural Steel and Bolting
  • ICC Structural Welding certification,
  • Minimum 2+ years of construction inspection experience in infrastructure, transportation, geotechnical, or environmental projects (civil engineering degree holders with FE/EIT certification encouraged to apply).
  • Experience in infrastructure construction is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with inspection and reporting software tools.
  • Working knowledge of construction materials, methods, and quality control procedures to ensure adherence to design and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with engineers, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both field and office environments, adapting to changing project demands.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; ability to travel to job sites as needed.
  • Flexibility to travel within the designated region as needed to support inspections, compliance efforts, and business operations is a must.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position primarily works in an outdoor work environment, regularly exposed to varying field conditions, including:

• Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, fields, and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris.
• Moderate to loud noise levels, common in active construction and industrial environments.
• Exposure to environmental elements including dirt, dust, sun, heat, humidity, and adverse weather conditions.

 

The physical requirements for this position may include and are not limited to:

• Ability to lift and/or carry 35 to 75 lbs. up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion.
• Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate equipment for extended periods.
• Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment.
• Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for fieldwork and inspections.
• Ability to speak and hear effectively to communicate in noisy environments and with project teams.
• Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant, and peripheral vison, depth vision, and ability to focus) smell, hear, touch (use hands to reach climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit).
